Strategic Plan

Goal A: Feed the hungry: Increase capacity to feed hungry people by expanding food procurement strategies and removing the barriers to equitable and effective distribution.

  • Objective 1: Develop and implement a system-wide growth plan that matches product flow with community need.

  • Objective 2: Establish solicitation strategies that increase donations from current local donors and encourage donations from untapped local sources.

  • Objective 3: Design and implement a distribution system that provides equitable and cost effective access to food.

  • Objective 4: Inventory existing operations and explore expansion into other services.

Goal B: Strengthen community hunger programs: Expand the Thurston County Food Bank agenda to diminish the root causes of hunger and build strategic relationships with other providers of food.

  • Objective 1: Identify community partners and develop active relationships with them to impact the root causes of hunger.

  • Objective 2: Regularly convene fellow advocates for an assessment of current operations and missing services.

Goal C: Educate and engage the public: Increase awareness of Thurston County Food Bank services on the part of people in need, the public at large, potential supporters and partners.

  • Objective 1: Develop and implement a comprehensive agency marketing plan that uses multiple vehicles and strategies to increase community awareness.

  • Objective 2: Develop and implement strategies that promote positive change in the public’s attitude and awareness of the problem of hunger in our community.

  • Objective 3: Develop and promote the public’s opportunity to participate in the Food Bank’s mission.

  • Objective 4: Establish a Food Bank speakers bureau.

Goal D: Increase resources to address hunger: Design and implement a long-term resource development plan that increases the resources necessary to address hunger in Thurston County and ensures long-term organizational strength and viability.

  • Objective 1: Develop and implement strategies to expand solicitation of cash and non-cash resources.

Goal E: Staff and volunteer development: Invest in the personal and professional growth of Food Bank volunteers and staff members to foster an environment that values positive, innovative and impactful work.

  • Objective 1: Design and implement comprehensive operational and organizational policies and procedures, including defined strategies to keep them current.

  • Objective 2: Create and promote agency-wide professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers.

  • Objective 3: Develop a volunteer marketing plan to target specific volunteer needs.
Goal F: Internal operations: Create a structure that utilizes resources at most efficient levels and will ensure continuity of operations after a disaster.
  • Objective 1: Create an overall business plan to include a sound financial plan.

  • Objective 2: Develop and implement a capital facilities and equipment replacement plan.

  • Objective 3: Conduct satisfaction surveys every two years of clients and volunteers on alternating years.

  • Objective 4: Define what a diversified Food Bank board looks like and a plan to achieve that goal.

  • Objective 5: Develop a continuity of operations plan.
