Volunteers Are our Foundation

Volunteers established the food bank in 1965 and they have been the foundation of our success ever since. There is an ever present awareness to serve those in need in the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor. In 2006, over 28,000 hours were donated by our many dedicated volunteers.

Who can Volunteer

There are various tasks for adults and teenagers. Children age 12 may volunteer without parental or custodial supervision. Children age 8-11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteering at the Food Bank

Volunteers are scheduled Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the day. Tasks include sorting food, repackaging food, gleaning produce, building food bags and setting up the food bank in preparation for food distribution.

If you like office work

We often need help with photocopying, filing and general support. If you have special gift for computer applications we can always use help with the database.

If you can drive

We need volunteer drivers to assist with our Mobile Food Bank delivering food to apartment complexes. We often need some assistance with food pickups particularly during the holiday season. Those interested can also assist with the regular pickup route as copilots riding along to help the driver.

If you are part of a group

We often have special projects that are great for small groups. Boxing food for special occasions everything from Thanksgiving Meal Boxes to Easter Baskets for the kids. Occasionally we have the need to bag additional food for new programs or our Satelite Food Bank system. We can use additional support to sort food after large food drives during the winter holidays and of course the Postal Workers Food Drive in May.

If you are a student

Students needing class/school community service hours may volunteer during Spring Break, Summer Break and Winter Break. We do have some opportunities on Saturdays to assist with large food drives or special events.
